Aurore Sobchuk Obituary

In Loving Memory of
Aurore (Morin) Sobchuk
December 13, 1927 – June 18, 2021

With broken hearts we share that Aurore has passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side, on June 18, 2021, at Westmount Gardens, London, Ontario at the age of 93.

Aurore will be forever missed by her daughters, Joanne Ross and Linda Sobchuk; her grandchildren, Jillian (Kevin) Bender and Lezlie (John) Ward; seven great-children, Alexis, Sydney and Kelsey Bender, Brooke and Brett Green, Alana and Hailey Ward; extended family and countless friends.

Aurore is survived by her sisters, Cécile and Rita, brothers, Aimé and Arthur; brothers/sisters-in law, Pierrette, Lorraine, Mary, Helen, Louis, Sonia, Gary and Bonnie; many nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews, all of whom she cherished and who thought the world of her.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband (almost 60 yrs), John (d.2010) and her special son-in-law, Jim Ross (d.2020); her parents Henri (d.1977) and Rosia (Nadeau) (d.1993) Morin; her sister Gertrude (d.1961) and her brother Roland (d.2008).

Aurore worked as a Grocery Clerk for 10 years and later as a Postal Clerk for 18 years. She loved to bake and cook and her biscotti, perogies and potato salad were beyond compare. She kept an immaculate house, was highly skilled with knitting needles, loved sports, especially curling, golf and cross-country skiing.  She enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles and walking every day rain or shine. She loved to go “up the line” to pick blueberries and her pies were famous. Even though she shared her pie dough recipe it never tasted the same as when she made it. She had the secret touch. Aurore was also an avid card player, whether it be cribbage, bridge, scat/31, kings, she enjoyed them all.

She made friends everywhere she went. Her zest for life was demonstrated many a time by dancing on the table at a family gathering. She loved happy hour at 4:30 p.m. with family and friends. One of her favorite songs was “Look At Us” by Vince Gill.  So, any day at 4:30 p.m., when you think of Aurore, have a toast to her life while listening to her favorite song. She would say to us “Love You Forever”.

Special thanks to the caring and dedicated staff at Westmount Gardens Long Term Care.
